The Texas Affordable Housing Specialist (TAHS) certification equips you with the knowledge to help first-time and underserved homebuyers as well as increase sustainable homeownership in Texas. The certification offers 12 CE hours, including the mandatory four hour United Texas: Housing Initiatives that Work course. United Texas: Housing Initiatives that Work

Course description    As a Texas REALTOR®, you can help more people realize the dream of homeownership. United Texas, the anchor of the Affordable Housing Specialist Certification, gives you the information you need to help your clients with low-cost financing, assistance programs, and a host of other options to make housing more affordable and available to all buyers. Partners for this course include the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation, and the Texas Veterans Land Board.

Marketing to the Affordable Housing Buyer

The affordable-housing buyer is a growing market in today’s industry. Knowing the special circumstances of these clients and how to best promote yourself in this market is critical. This class will help you locate sources of qualified affordable-housing buyers, assess their specific needs, identify fair-housing issues, and understand and respond to the concerns of the affordable-housing buyer. In short, you will gain tips for working with and counseling affordable housing buyers so that you can meet their needs.

Help for Homebuyers

Course description    The purpose of this TAHS Certification course is to educate real estate professionals about workforce housing by providing a definition of workforce housing, as well as identifying barriers to and suggesting solutions for affordable housing issues in Texas. Course also covers role the real estate professionals has in educating consumers and potential clients, particularly first-time homebuyers.

Expanding Housing Opportunities

Course description    This course is designed to increase participants’ understanding of how affordability bolsters the housing market, engages clients, and builds business as well as the community. Students will learn to better leverage partnerships and resources to expand housing opportunities. Course participants will learn to identify and explain the range of affordable housing opportunities and their benefits to clients; describe how affordability affects the housing market, their clients, their business, and their community; better analyze affordable financing options, including local, state, federal, and nonprofit assistance programs for buyers and renters; and build partnerships to expand housing opportunities through advocacy, workforce housing initiatives, and green building concepts.

An email containing the Zoom link will be provided a day before the class. Prior to class, attendees will receive an email with information on setting up a Zoom account and links to class materials, if applicable. To participate in class, a functioning Web camera is necessary.
